East Atlanta Flatiron Building

East Atlanta Flatiron Building
Acrylic on canvas, 22 x 38
Been gone awhile, maybe now I can find the time to make a few more attempts at some art.
I have always liked this building.  I grew up not far from it.

O and M Grocery - Charleston, South Carolina

The O & M Grocery, Meeting Street, Charleston, S.C.  No Loitering or Drinking allowed.  Charleston is a beautiful town with lots to draw.  I don't think the O & M is featured on the horse drawn carriage tours.

The Smokehouse

The Smoke House

Smoke House BBQ - Ponce de Leon Avenue - Atlanta, Ga
Entrepreneurs drive the economy, but Bar-B-Que drives the South. Small outposts like this one are a testament to the determination of the small business owner.  This one is right in the middle of Atlanta in Midtown.  Just across the street from the Krispy Kreme.

Cold Night

Cold Night
This is a pen and ink/watercolor of mine from 1989.  I came across it the other day tucked into an old sketchbook of the same vintage.  I had totally forgotten about it.  Maybe for good reason.

Dial-a-Drunk

Dial a Drunk

Vintage Intoximeter - a/k/a the “Dial-a-Drunk.”

In the 70‘s, 80‘s and into the 90‘s this machine was the standard in Georgia and elsewhere for measuring whether a person would be charged with DUI/DWI.
The suspect would blow into a tube sending a breath sample into a chemical ampule.  Light was transmitted through the ampule and a  photo-electric sensor measured the amount of light.  A needle moved, a dial was turned to center the needle, a gauge on the dial was read and Voila! Dial a Drunk.
Defense lawyers loved this machine.  Legal challenges, operator error, corruption... just a good old time
Suspects always complained. “I blew into a tube, the cop turned a dial and I got arrested.”    This machine was decommissioned around 1994.

Trader Joe's - Norcross, Georgia

Trader Joe's - Norcross, Georgia

Trader Joe’s Norcross, GA
This place should be declared a crime scene.  Selling so much chocolate, and particularly chocolate covered almonds,  should be a crime.  I am also known to frequent a another Trader Joe’s crime scene on Monroe Drive in Atlanta.

I am pretty sure my dog Tinker Bell does not understand the concept of a grocery store.  She does however, have the humans she adopted trained to buy plenty of chicken strips from this place.

Pen and Ink with watercolor in a spiral bound sketchbook.  8 x 10.
